The Association is dedicated to the principles established by the cities and towns that founded it: to offer the services, programs and products that will give municipal officials the knowledge, experience and tools necessary to operate efficiently and effectively in the complex world of local government. 

The Association’s staff works as a team to deliver top-notch customer service to thousands of municipal officials across the state. From the largest cities to small, rural towns, we strive to offer trainings, grants, risk management services, statewide legislative advocacy, resources and other services that help municipal officials govern smarter and better.

What We’re Searching For

The Municipal Association of South Carolina is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Assistant. This full-time position will support our Education and Training team. 

Job Duties: 

  • Provides daily administrative support for the affiliate groups
  • Assists in coordinating meetings and training for affiliate groups including but not limited to contacting and arranging for the participation of exhibitors; preparing administrative documents and proofing all materials; assembling information packets; preparing name badges; processing registration, etc. 
  • Provides administrative support for the preparation, organization, and implementation of marketing and membership renewal process for assigned affiliates including patron members
  • Invoices and processes account receivable and payable in areas of responsibility; enters and maintains accurate financial data and prepares reports as required.
  • Assists in preparing, disseminating and summarizing surveys
  • Composes reports and correspondence
  • Assists in managing the certification, scholarship and designation program
  • Administers and updates listserve memberships
  • Assists with special projects or assignments related to assigned affiliate operations such as annual compensation survey, planning officials training, and/or certification programs. 
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Develops and maintains efficient record-keeping systems;
  • Provides general administrative support to supervisors and other staff, including but not limited to scheduling and coordinating meetings, researching and compiling data for reports, making travel and accommodations arrangements
  • Travels periodically to perform the duties of this position.
  • Assists the receptionist with front desk coverage as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


  • Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or experience/training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education with an emphasis in business, office management, meeting planning or related field.
  • Three years of administrative support and/or meeting planning experience. Education may be substituted for a portion of experience.
  • Advanced skills in all Microsoft Office programs; Database experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and leadership skills; and the ability to think strategically and be a team player.
  • Valid state driver’s license 

Pay info: Competitive salary based on qualifications and excellent benefits package including South Carolina State Retirement and insurance.
