Job Duties

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.

In conjunction with the Director, assists with the development and implementation of the City’s loss control programs and policies; reviews and analyzes operations, policies, procedures and budgets to identify potential loss exposures; submits loss forecasts, claims analysis reports, and other detailed information; recommends strategies to reduce risk and loss exposures and their related costs; identification and oversees the implementation of preventative measure to reduce potential risk.

Under the direction of the Director of Insurance and Risk Services, makes recommendations regarding design, implementation and monitoring of self-funded and other risk financing alternatives for property/casualty and workers’ compensation programs and evaluates program costs and claims experience; makes recommendations to optimize coverages and costs; reviews policy contracts and terms and conditions; negotiates terms; purchases and places all related programs. Oversees claims management and direction of Third Party administrator for property/casualty and workers’ compensation programs.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management & Insurance, Business Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field. Five years experience working as an administrator with general liability, public officials liability, law enforcement liability, employment practice liability, property damage, or workers compensation programs, preferably in the government sector. Two years supervisory and management experience is also required. Insurance Institute of America’s Associate Risk Manager’s (ARM) or Certified Risk Managers (CRM) designation if preferred.
