City Prosecutor, City of Columbia
JOB SUMMARY: This position prepares and handles criminal prosecutions. The incumbent exercises professional judgment independently, and supervises the work of professional and clerical assistants. Work is subject to general administrative and judicial review.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Manages the criminal docket in Municipal court. Prepares cases and represents or assists with representation of the City in legal matters. Reviews and responds to subpoenas. Reviews and prepares legal documents, real estate documents, etc. Performs research.
Prepares legal opinions and offers legal advice. Recommends action on complaints and claims by or against the City. Manages civil and administrative caseloads. Attends meetings, training, conferences, seminars, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills; and performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Knowledge of basic algebra involving variables and formulas, and/or computing discounts and interest rates. Knowledge of personal computer equipment with skill in the use of Microsoft Office 2000 preferred, utilizing Outlook, word processing and database software programs. Ability to develop new approaches or methodologies to solve problems not previously encountered by analyzing, synthesizing or evaluating data or information using unconventional or untried methods.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: Juris doctorate degree. No experience required. Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License. Licensed to practice law in South Carolina and a member in good standing with the South Carolina Bar.
Compensation Range: $71,380.00 - $91,009.50
