Job Duties

Receives and responds to citizen inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints related to municipal code and zoning ordinance regulations, business license regulations, and nuisance abatement. Performs field inspections and re-inspections to verify compliance or non-compliance with development standards, nuisance related ordinances, and zoning codes affecting private property. Patrols all areas of the City to monitor overall compliance of codes related to the use and maintenance of private property and compliance with business license regulations.

Provides notifications of non-compliance and the corrective actions necessary to owners or occupants of properties found in non-compliance. Assists citizens by providing information relative to City development standards, codes, and land use regulations. Maintains records of cases where violations are observed and corrective action is necessary.

Issues summonses to appear before municipal judge as necessary. Prepares evidentiary documentation for use in cases where non-compliance results in appearance before the municipal judge. Maintains an inventory of non-conforming uses, buildings and structures. (Refer to job description for complete list of duties).

Qualifications

Requires an associate degree in business administration, criminal justice, construction management, or a related field supplemented by one to two years experience in code compliance, municipal government, zoning administration, law enforcement, or a related field, or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Pay Info
Salary range $44,563.75 – $62,389.79. Excellent benefits package including 13 holidays, participation in the State Retirement System, the SC Deferred Compensation Plan, and the State Health Plan with the employee’s health and basic dental insurance premiums paid by the city.
