Event Manager, City of West Columbia
Organizes, plans, oversees and manages all aspects of city-sponsored events, functions, and celebrations including employee and community events, to ensure events are successful and cost-effective; plans such events from start to finish according to requirements for target audience and event objectives. Ensures that city-sponsored events highlight the city’s desirable attributes; such as a variety of recreational activities and the positive appeal of the city’s business districts and residential neighborhoods, and celebrates the city’s approach to a safe, healthy, and enjoyable quality of
Interacts with leaders and representatives of various businesses, industries, and charitable, voluntary, service-oriented, and community organizations to build positive, proactive relationships, to enlist volunteers, and to seek funding for city-sponsored events. Prepares Project Proposal Checklists for events; prepares event budgets and ensures adherence to budgetary constraints; sources and negotiates with vendors and suppliers, coordinates volunteers and city staff for event activities; publishes notifications and promotional advertisements for upcoming events.
Approves all aspects before the day of an event; coordinates all city staff and volunteers scheduled to assist with the event; leads promotional activities during the day of the event; ensures the event unfolds smoothly; resolves any problems or issues that may occur as the event progresses. Conducts a post-event analysis to determine event’s success and ways to resolve problems that occurred; completes demographic and budget reports. Coordinates the Employee Christmas Luncheon. Vocational/technical school training or associate degree supplemented by three (3) to five (5) years of experience and/or training in marketing and/or event management, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for event management.
Must possess excellent organizational skills, excellent customer service-oriented skills, high level of word processing skills, and excellent writing skills.
Must be proficient on MS Office. Must possess a valid SC driver’s license.
