Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Requires two years in vehicle maintenance and repair or closely related experience. An equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered. Four (4) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications are required, or the ability to obtain no less than two within six months of hire and four within a year of hire. Valid driver’s license required. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required, or the ability to obtain and maintain within 18 months of hire.

Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the truck and equipment mechanic's trade. Knowledge of the principles of internal diesel and gas combustion engines. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the truck, equipment and automotive mechanic's trade. Knowledge of electric transit buses and electric vehicle diagnosis and repair. Knowledge of Auto and Truck Electrical/Electronic Systems. Skill in locating and adjusting defects in motor equipment.

Skill in the use of tools and in the operation of equipment employed in the adjustment, repair, and maintenance of trucks, equipment, and automotive related equipment. Ability to work independently and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
