Job Duties

Under general supervision, is responsible for ensuring that all personnel and apparatus arrive at the emergency scene as quickly and safely as possible, utilizing the routes of choice; that all equipment on assigned apparatus is maintained and functions properly.

Assists in maintenance duties regarding the station building, apparatus, equipment, and grounds.

Maintains records and prepares reports as required. Reports to the Fire Captain and/or Fire Battalion Chief.

Qualifications

High School graduate with successful completion of specialized training programs that cover interior firefighting, incident command, hazardous materials, medical responder, driver training, pump operations, and aerial operations.

Must possess a valid SC driver’s license. In addition to required training, must have a minimum of three years of progressive experience in the fire service, including two of the three years of service with the West Columbia Fire Department. Must be at Engineer I level for a minimum of one year and must have completed the Driver Operator Task Book. Must possess or obtain National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification within twenty-four (24) months of employment date.

Hiring Range: EMT ($50,041.01 – $70,059.65); Paramedic ($57,340.65 – $80,276.24) DOQ
